Methodology
How Best Link Shortener is assessed
The exact criteria behind every entry on this site, so you can disagree with the weighting rather than wonder what it was.
Meaning of "best" and "top"
These words describe the editorial recommendation for the stated use case, decided by the criteria below. They are not a claim of a universal, independently measured league table, and no tool was lab-tested for this site.
What we measure
Every channel entry starts from the failure mode that channel exposes, then checks which tools' published plans avoid it. The fields we read from each pricing page, in the order a channel usually cares about them:
- Custom domain on the free plan, because deliverability, carrier filtering and platform trust all depend on the domain.
- Ads or interstitials on free links, which disqualify a tool for any audience-facing channel.
- Bot-click filtering, since email scanners, social preview fetchers and messaging apps all generate machine clicks.
- Channel-specific features: custom previews and bio pages for social, QR codes for print, rotators, pixels and routing for affiliate, custom back-halves and editable destinations for audio and video.
- Quotas that fit the channel's shape: links versus tracked clicks, monthly versus lifetime, and whether links pause at a cap.
- Entry price for the plan that completes the channel's feature set.
How the recommendation is chosen
The pick for a channel is the tool whose published plan satisfies the channel's requirements at the lowest price. Where two tools tie on requirements, the one with more generous free limits wins. This is why ReSlug leads most channels and Linkly leads affiliate marketing, where click caps, rotators and bot management are the requirements and ReSlug's Pro plan is the value alternative rather than the specialist.
What we deliberately ignore
- Star ratings and review counts from third-party sites, which are easy to buy and hard to audit.
- Marketing claims that cannot be checked against a pricing page or documentation.
- Our own preferences about design or brand.
Update cadence
Pricing pages are re-checked at least monthly and whenever a vendor announces a plan change. The current dataset was reviewed on 8 November 2026 and covers 10 tools.
