Best link shortener for podcasts and video descriptions
A link read aloud on a podcast or shown on screen for four seconds has to be typed from memory. It needs a short domain, a back-half that is a real word, and a destination you can change when the offer changes, without re-recording the episode.
What a spoken link needs
Nobody remembers bit.ly/3xK9qLm. People remember show.fm/mattress. That means three requirements: a domain short enough to say, a back-half that is a dictionary word, and no capital letters or digits. Only tools that allow custom back-halves on every link qualify, and only a domain you own stays short and pronounceable.
The second requirement is permanence. Episodes are listened to for years. A sponsor code mentioned in episode 40 must still work after the sponsor changes its landing page, which means you need to edit the destination, not the link.

A link system for a show
- One short domain for the show, for example
pod.yourshow.comor a dedicated short domain. - One evergreen link per sponsor, named for the brand:
/mattress,/vpn. Repoint it when the offer changes. - One link per episode for show notes:
/ep41. Easy to say, easy to remember. - UTM parameters set inside the shortener so the sponsor sees your show as the source without the listener typing anything extra.
- A bio page as the single link in every platform profile, pointing to the latest episode, the newsletter and the sponsor links.
On ReSlug all five steps fit inside the free plan. Analytics with bot filtering tell you which spoken links actually convert listeners, which is the number sponsors ask for.
Video descriptions and on-screen links
YouTube descriptions allow full URLs, but viewers on TV apps cannot click them and will type what they see on screen. The same memorable-link rule applies. Video also benefits from device routing: a viewer on a phone should land on the mobile page or app store, a viewer on desktop on the full site. ReSlug Pro and Short.io do this per link.
For end-screen QR codes, see the print and QR entry. The same dynamic-code logic applies: encode a short link, never the final URL.
Reporting to sponsors
Sponsors pay on clicks or conversions and compare your numbers to theirs. Bot clicks make your numbers look inflated and your show look dishonest. Use a tool that removes bot traffic before you export a report. ReSlug does on every plan and keeps 365 days of history on Pro, long enough for a quarterly sponsor review. TinyURL free gives you no numbers at all, which is the main reason it is the fallback rather than the pick.
Questions & answers
What makes a good spoken short link?
A short, pronounceable domain and a one-word back-half with no digits or capitals. Say it twice on air and show it on screen.
Can I change where a podcast link goes after the episode is out?
Yes, on any tool that lets you edit destinations. ReSlug, Short.io, Dub and Cuttly allow it free. TinyURL requires Pro.
How many links will a podcast need?
One per episode plus one per sponsor. A weekly show with five sponsors uses about 60 links a year, far inside ReSlug's 500 active links.
Should I use the podcast host's short links?
Host links are fine for the episode page but usually cannot be renamed or repointed. For sponsor links use a shortener on your own domain.
